Soul Shakedown with performances by Boostive, Mitchum Yacoub & Divina
Boostive is known for their explosive live shows, growing from their six core members into a dynamic 6–12 piece band. Their sound is a unique blend of downtempo electronica, dub-reggae, cumbia, and hip-hop, shaped by the different musical backgrounds and life experiences each member brings to the group. They’ve coined their sound “Dub-Hop.”
Hailing from California, Boostive is influenced by the rich musical culture of the West Coast, but they don’t fit neatly into the typical California reggae sound. Their music draws more heavily from late-’70s roots reggae, Jamaican dub, and the golden era of hip-hop, blending those influences with electronic production, global rhythms, and live instrumentation to create something distinctly their own.
Over the years, Boostive has had the opportunity to tour and share stages across the country with many of their musical heroes, including Lee “Scratch” Perry, Thievery Corporation, and Slightly Stoopid. Their high-energy performances and genre-blending sound have helped them build a loyal following and carve out a sound all their own.
The band is currently working on new music and gearing up for festival season, bringing their signature grooves, live instrumentation, and infectious energy to stages wherever they go.
Mitchum Yacoub is an Egyptian-American multi-instrumentalist, producer, and DJ based out of San Diego, CA. As a lifelong drummer that has supported many projects in the vein of Afrobeat, Soul, Funk, and Reggae, he's been slow brewing a unique feel for roots and dance music. Inspired by artists like Fela Kuti, Dr. Dre, and James Brown, his group harkens back to Africa in the 70’s with the bass and drums turned up a notch. Strong, repetitive grooves layered with Afro-Latin percussion and vibrant, tightly executed horn lines that call all dancers to the floor.
Divina is a lifelong artist whose musical journey began at the age of four, when she first picked up an instrument—and she hasn’t stopped since. Her path has woven through a vibrant spectrum of genres, from Latin jazz and soul to reggae, hip hop, and R&B. With an eclectic sound that blends tradition and innovation, she brings a dynamic energy suited to any stage or setting.
Over the past few years, Divina has delved deeply into music production and live instrumentation, crafting intimate live-looping performances that are as sonically rich as they are emotionally engaging. For more than five years, she has served as a featured vocalist & percussionist for Mitchum Yacoub and front woman/lead vocalist of San Diego’s reggae/dub-hop collective Boostive captivating audiences at festivals and venues nationwide. Her performances have shared the stage with acclaimed artists including Lady Wray, Mereba, Macy Gray, Chancha Via Circuito, La Perla, Bonobo, Domi & JD Beck, Tokimonsta, Slightly Stoopid, Rawayana, Seun Kuti, Thievery Corporation, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Don Carlos, GZA, and many others.
Whether performing solo, as a duo, or with her full touring band, Divina is known for her professionalism, presence, and authentic connection to her audience. Her sound draws deep inspiration from many musical luminaries; tasteful production styles from J Dilla, D’Angelo, Juls, Mara TK, Al Dobson Jr., Inflo, Kaytranada, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Knxwledge and vocal lyricism & stylings from Erykah Badu, Sade, Mariah Carey, Bob Marley, Missy Elliott, Bahamadia, Cleo Sol, Helena Holleran & Lauryn Hill—just a few among the many across decades who have shaped her musical soul.
